As a marketing graduate, two of the most common ways to kickstart your career are to:

  • Work in an in-house marketing team

    • This is great if you want lots of hands on experience and utilise contractors for more specialised marketing tasks.

    • Usually involves working with a small number of products or brands, which can really help you understand one market exceptionally well.

  • Work for an agency

    • Great if you want to work for a wide variety of industries and clients

    • Often involves more project-based work, though many agencies have ongoing contracts so you may end up with a small portfolio of regulars.

USEFUL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

As the field of marketing is quite broad, you will generally be considered if you have qualifications similar to:

  • Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing)

  • Bachelor of Marketing & Communications

  • Bachelor of Digital Marketing

  • Any data analysis or research-based degree

  • Any psychology or economics-based degree

In addition to this, skills in the following areas can help make you more employable:

  • Social media marketing

  • Web design

  • Event management

  • Graphic and audio visual design

  • Copywriting
